Rowan University is a Carnegie-classified Doctoral University (Moderate Research Activity) with approximately 17,300 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20 miles southeast of Philadelphia, with additional campuses in Camden and Stratford. The College of Education invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor with a focus on English Teacher Education at the secondary level. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching is grounded in a sociocultural theoretical framework and whose work explicitly addresses issues of equity, access and social justice. The successful candidate is expected to engage in an active research agenda in the field of middle/high school English education and to seek out and apply for external funding. The successful candidate will teach courses in the department’s undergraduate and graduate level Subject Matter Education programs, which lead to NJ teaching certification in English Language Arts. The position may include online and off-campus instruction.

Qualifications Required

     An earned terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from an accredited institution of higher education in Curriculum and Instruction or a closely related field by September 1, 2018

     Evidence of a cohesive and relevant research agenda and recent publications

     Strong, explicit commitment to educational equity and social justice

     At least 3 years teaching experience at the middle or high school students in English/ Language Arts

     Experience with and a commitment to working effectively with diverse students and families

     Demonstrated superior communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

     Commitment to working in an environment devoted to collaboration, collegiality, professional development, diversity, scholarly inquiry, student learning, civic responsibility, and respect for all people

     A teaching and learning philosophy consistent with the Rowan University and College of Education missions

     Advanced computer literacy with demonstrated abilities to infuse into instruction

     Membership and participation in appropriate professional organizations



     Knowledge of and familiarity with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)

     Knowledge of online course development and delivery

     Experience in grant writing

     Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students
